CRASH Projects

CRASH are a charity working for the homeless in the construction industry. They needed to have a rigurous application process for organisations applying for funding. The application process needed to:

• Capture and keep records of all the applicants and their details
• Allow applicants to create their own accounts
• Allow applicants to save their application without submitting, and then come back to continue their application later on
• Upload multiple images and store data of different types
• Provide a record of the data to the applicants and to the administrators
• Provide an intuitive and simple interface

The online application website was built using Drupal 10. Drupal 10 allowed the website to be built in a short timeframe and meeting all the project requirements. The website itself needed to be styled in the same way as the main CRASH website. This project was to replace the existing application process to make it even more user friendly. 

CRASH, the charity that works for the homeless with the construction industry, asked me to make several updates to their site to improve the user experience. The changes were designed to make the site simpler and more intuitive to use. The changes included:

• Adding dropdowns to the main menu
• Changing menu text to make menu items and page titles easier to follow and communicate the work that CRASH does
• Simplifying page layouts including removing unnecessary page elements
• Highlighting the core work that CRASH does
• Emphasising links on the website that CRASH want website visitors to follow 

The overall result was a much more streamlined and user friendly site.

A database design project to build a bespoke donations database using Microsoft Access for CRASH. Crash are a charity working for the homeless with the construction industry. They wanted a bespoke database that would hold information on all the donations they received, both from individuals and companies.

Key elements of the database included:

• Ability to store all information on donations from individuals and companies
• To be able to filter and show donations based on the donation type company company, date period, gift aided donations and other criteria
• To produce reports and charts based on filtered sets of data for the donations
• Straightforward and simple interface to make entering information easy
• Quick look up features for individuals and companies

This was a relatively straightforward database to create that did not take much time.

CRASH are a homeless charity that works with the construction industry to provide homes and other services for homeless people. They had an existing website which was well designed, but they did not have access to it themselves to be able to update it. All the updates had to go through a third party. They asked me to rebuild the website so that they would be able to easily update all the content themselves. The work I did included: 

• Submitting an updated design
• Rebuilding the website using the Wordpress content mangement system
• Giving CRASH the ability to update all areas of the website as intuitively as possible
• Transferring most of the content from the old website to the new one
• Include the ability to have video content and photo galleries on the website

CRASH have been very happy with the outcome of their new website and now manage most of it themselves.

This was a straight-forward update to CRASH's website to make the whole site mobile friendly. The mobile optimisation of the site did not take long and now any visitors viewing their site from a mobile or handheld device are presented with easily readable content and a simple touch friendly navigation system.
